Consider the following.
The hero will will get next in the story is an Elementalist, and the hero choice that comes after that is between a Ranger and a Necromancer. So you have access to both those professions soon enough. The question is whether you want to spread your heroes out or concentrate. Many people run Sousuke and Zhed as double Searing Flames, which is quite effective. You can also run Jin and Magrid as double Barrage. The next thing is what works better with your profession. I would suggest Jin for your Ritualist, because you can throw Weapon Spells on her. Splinter Weapons come to mind, but Warmonger, Brutal, all work. If you do not have Prophesies, you might want to choose Jin for your assassin as well, as you might want to take Masters of Whispers as your Minion Master. MM support is quite nice for assassins. |

I almost always pick Sousuke over Jin. It's mostly a habit, and I think that having 2 eles in early pve for most campaigns is the way to go. Useually I'll start EoTN as soon as possible so I have Vekk and Gwen at my disposal as well. I then go get Olias from Proph since it takes about 5 minutes.
This way you have: 2 Eles, a Necro, and a Mesmer. This gives you plenty of room to take Margrid the Sly's path. If you DO take Master's Path (if you don't have Olias), then just take Gwen and have her cast backfire on the Hunger. It takes him down in one casting. |

I've actually ignored both for many of my characters, mainly since I always just pick Margid then get someone to bring their Master of Whispers so I can do Rilohn Refuge. You get both when you finish Nightfall anyways.

If you have GW:EN, you will have an Elementalist hero at level 20 - so go for Jin. GW:EN will also give you Pyre, a ranger, but he's deeper into that expansion. I forget exactly, but I think about 2 missions in.
If not, you will get an Elementalist just before the second mainland mission, and either a ranger -or- necromancer just before the third. |

My guess is BHA helped MUCH more than Winter given the way the game currently calculates damage. In fact, BHA is fairly good especially when facing very high level casters. Just because you rolled through a mission and carried X skill doesn't mean X skill works exactly the way you think it does. |
